Two provinces (states) of Cambodia have been declared disaster areas by the Cambodian Government because of a lack of water. Although there were disastrous floods in the year 2000, rainfall declined in the years since and ground water levels have fallen as much as 60 feet. Hundreds of thousands of people are now dependent on “open water sources” because their wells of 65 feet once provide clean water but have gone dry. Entire villages are hauling drinking water for miles and have none to bathe or wash clothes. Diseases communicated through impure water such as typhoid and diphtheria are rapidly spreading in some areas and dysentery is rampant.
Partners In Progress has begun a well drilling project in the villages to assist a few of the thousands in need. For $500 to $1000 we can drill a fresh water well that will provide a clean water source for a village of up to 3,000 people. Thus far we have completed two and have three more scheduled to be drilled next week.
We are seeking funds to dig 20 more wells and appeal to you, your church, Bible class and friends to adopt one or more wells that will save lives and show people that the “Living God” cares for them.
